Save the Internet!

Save the Internet: Click here!
I just sent letters to my reps and senators via SaveTheInternet.com.
It's an easy way to let them know that I support Net Neutrality. You should too. Net Neutrality is basically the principle that everyone has an equal chance to do business and exchange information on the Internet. Some of the big telecom companies want to set it up so that service and content providers can pay fees to have their data prioritized on the network. That would allow giant companies that could afford it like AOL to have faster network services while smaller businesses (like San Antonio's sakids.org or heroesandfantasies.com) would have their traffic relegated to the "slow lane" unless they paid the fees.

Net Neutrality protects us all and gives everyone a fair chance to do business, play games, and even send email without having that data transfer slowed down. It would prevent carriers from charging our service and content providers a "hi-speed" fee over and above what they already pay for access to the Internet.

I am very much for net neutrality. Without it, I think the web will cease to be the unique source for free speech that it is. To preserve the current exchange of ideas that represents what is best about the web requires that everyone have an equal chance to provide those ideas. If our congress does not preserve that, then it is a sure sign that our government no longer cares about anything but corporations and the bottom line.
