Flying complete

We've finally finished our flights, which were fun except for a little ear trouble. We got a nice dark red Ford Explorer and were met at the airport by Jen's mom. It took much longer than we expected to drive from RDU to Williamsburg, but we finally made it at about 1:30am. We're staying at Great Wolf Lodge, which I've decided has to be the most awesome hotel ever. It's so kid friendly and we are having such a good time.

While we were there, we went to Colonial Williamsburg of course, but we also played at the hotel a lot. The Magiquest game was AWESOME, the indoor water park fun, and the breakfast buffet good. It was really really cool.

Vacation and Anniversary

Today is our eighth anniversary. Happy happy joy joy!!! :)

We're leaving today for Williamsburg VA, then traveling down the Outer Banks and to Wallace NC, where Jen's mom lives. Looking forward to it!

D&D

We just today bought Dungeons & Dragons - The Complete Animated Series (1983). I loved that as a kid. I can't wait to watch it again.

Lip Dubs

If you haven't seen the Lip Dub of “Flagpole Sitta” done by the gang at Connected Ventures (the company behind CollegeHumor and Vimeo) then watch it! It's awesome. Me and Bren have watched it over and over.

Then see the neat ones that Digg and Rev3 did here.

Virginia

We're going to Virginia soon. I'm driving thru this. We're doing some other stuff too.

I rock

Thursday I passed a certification test and in one fell swoop got my general Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) cert and my MCSA: Messaging cert. So now, I have proven that I know my shit when it comes to Exchange Server. And fuck you Martin for insinuating that I didn't know it back in the day too. Cuz I did, ya schmuck.

I am very happy. A few more tests and I'll have my updated MCSE.

My Shirt

Someone asked me today in a Starbucks what I blog about. My answer: oh not much in the last 6 months, but mostly my kids. She said she keeps a craft blog. Hmmm, sounds about as interesting as my kid blog. hehe.

I was wearing my Blogger T-shirt, which is why she asked.

While we're on the subject or Starbucks, am I the only one that feels like an outsider there? Every time I've gone in one (which must be only 4 or 5 times ever), I feel like I'm not supposed to be there and that I'm an idiot. I don't know what their stupid size names are -Venti, Vici, Vodi or something. If life were up to me, all sizes would be in ounces and you'd be able to specify exactly what you wanted.

"Hello, welcome to Micky D's drive thru window."
"Yeah chicky, I want two 3 ounce burgers with cheese, a 6 ounce fry, a 14 ounce strawberry milkshake, and 2 ounces of ketchup, no make it 3, please."
"Yes, sir, commin right up."

That'd be my ideal drive up window.

Speaking of drive up windows, where the heck are the outsourced order takers that I read about months ago. The people who are trained to take orders fastly and correctly? And where are the ordering kiosks if you want to go in? I don't want to talk to some minimum wage moron that is going to get my order wrong anyway. Let me tap it into a machine instead, please.

Shirt on me

I'm wearing my freakin' awesome Blogger T-shirt. I just wanted everybody to know that.

Amazing Drawing

I saw this video a long time ago and really thought it was cool. I almost can't believe that this is real.

$100 Brunch

This morning Jen and I went to a $100 per person brunch. We were given tickets by the big, big boss at my place of employment. It was a charity even that raised about $85K, according to the emcee.

Lo Bello de San Antonio Women’s Club
April 20, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. El Tropicano Hotel, 110 Lexington Ave.
Do you like bling? Do you like bubbles? Then you’ll love Lo Bello de San Antonio Women’s Club’s annual Champagne and Diamonds Brunch. You will have a fabulous time with old and new friends and sip champagne with Fiesta royalty! This unique event combines an incredible breakfast buffet, champagne and a chance to win a one-carat diamond. No other Fiesta event features a GRITO contest between the Fiesta Commission President, King Antonio and Rey Feo, Mexican folkloric performers, and great music and dancing. You definitely do not want to miss this Fiesta event!

Tickets: $100 for the brunch and chance to win the diamond; $50 brunch only.

Wow! Talk about expensive. We dressed up nicely and had a good time. Jen enjoyed champagne and I settled for orange juice. The brunch was OK, but certainly not worth $100. (Golden Corral has a better breakfast buffet.) Everyone picked a glass with a clear gemstone in the bottom and then was given that gem in a bag along with the number from the glass. At the end, the winning number (#111, by the way) was called. Neither of us had the number, but we still had a good time.

We brought home the bagged gem each of us got, and some champagne glasses, and I snagged the sign from my employer's table as a souvenir. I appreciated being able to go and had a good time there.

Secret World Chronicle

Lately, I've been listening to the Secret World Chronicle by Mercedes Lackey and Steve Libbey. It is really very good. The fact that it is free certainly doesn't hurt, but it is good enough to pay for, I think. The quality of the recording varies early on, but toward the end of book one, both the story and performance really shine. I'm in the last chapter of the first book right now.

Through that, I also found the art work of Douglas Shuler, a fantastic fantasy artist. He really does great 3D modeled characters, not to mention the hand drawn stuff.

Check out both!

1&1 Internet

I just did a survey of customer satisfaction for my preferred webhost, 1&1 Internet. I feel that I need to air the opinions I shared with them, so here they are. Comments welcome.

I have been using and recommending you to my consulting clients, but your *nasty* policy of sending things to collections so quickly makes me feel like finding another host to recommend. It is embarrassing to get calls (two of which I've received already) asking me why my recommended host has sent a bill to collection. In both instances, the person's credit card on file had expired and they forgot to update with the new one. You need to institute a last resort phone call before you send something to collections, or you risk losing customers. Everyone gets a new credit card periodically, and you really don't deal well with that. I hope you will work to improve.
